Learn to Laugh at Yourself

14 Mar

If you were here last weekend to experience our rendition of “Lunch Lady Land” from SNL, you probably laughed heartily or you cowered awkwardly. Either way, I consider it mission accomplished! 🙂

One of the most deeply rooted values in Hope’s culture is that we don’t take ourselves too seriously. This means that we are actually ok with people seeing our goofy side, our mistakes and mishaps, and our bloopers. Why? Because we believe the wall needs to be removed that is traditionally between those on the stage and those in the seats.
This is what Jesus did when He sat down to have lunch with people. He wasn’t trying to put on a religious face. In fact, he was trying to get those who wore the religious mask to take them off. Jesus always points to the heart and that is what we are getting at when we are willing to laugh at ourselves from time to time. We recognize that our piety or our perfection are not what prove our worth to Christ or our effectiveness as ministers. It is only by His grace that imperfect, weird, and goofy people get to stand and call Him our Lord.
Now, it’s your turn to laugh. Try it out, it’s fun!
Here is a great and telling video about the way we write and perform worship songs. It’s so accurate! That’s what makes it funny!
Remember, in the words of your fearless leader…
“We are SO awesome!”
Hahahahaha!!!

March 2013 Update

8 Mar

We are so excited about our worship night coming up this weekend on the McKinney campus! Make every effort to be there at 6pm and lets join together to celebrate all that God has done!

_________________________________________________________

I am so thankful to serve with such an amazing group of people! Thank you for committing to this team and more importantly to living out a lifestyle of God-worship.

This scripture has been on my mind lately and I wanted to share it with you. It is Paul’s prayer for the Colossians and we have been praying this for you and every person that walks through the doors at Hope.

Would you be willing to join with us and pray this over our church?

Colossians 1:9-14

9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. 11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, 12 giving thanks[a] to the Father, who has qualified you[b] to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us fromthe domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

I want to remind you of one of our core beliefs as a worship team.

We are all worship leaders.

There is a team leader for each weekend, but there is no distinction between you and anyone else on stage when it comes to leading worship. We all are! Use this as a frame of reference in everything you do.

Practice like a worship leader.

Pray like a worship leader.

Lead like a worship leader.

________________________________________________________

Before I let you go, I have a few logistical reminders:

1. You received an email from Anne about filling out a background check. If you have not done that or did not receive an email please contact alunsford@hopefellowship.net. It doesn’t matter if you have previously filled one out. Go ahead and do it again. Thanks. This is very important for all of us to complete if we want to continue to serve at Hope.

2. Remember not to park in the front spaces at either campus. John has always set the example by parking in the farthest parking spaces away from the building so we leave the up front spaces open for attenders and visitors. In Frisco, we request that you fill up the spaces that line the driveway at the rolater entrance first. Thanks for your help in this.

3. Don’t forget to always attend a service when you serve on a weekend. It would be best to plan which one you will attend ahead of time.

4. In April, we will be hosting a team workshop and worship night at the Frisco Campus on Thursday the 11th. We’ll take some time to do individual workshops pertaining to our specific assignments and then we’ll join together for a time of worship.  I’ll be giving you more details soon, but please mark it on your calendars.

I’m so thankful for the time and talent that you invest in this team! Thank you!

Let your words and your actions line up with God’s mission!

Take care,

Aubrey

Immeasurably More

7 Mar

Ephesians 3:20: “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.”

When was the last you lived as if you believed that? When was the last time you prayed as if you believed that? I’m guilty.

This verse hasn’t left my heart for about a month now and I think there is reason for that. God loves our prayers, but He desires our big prayers. It’s good that we have faith in who God is, but He is longing for people who have faith beyond just belief, beyond the natural. In Matthew 5: 20 Jesus tells us: “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as this mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

This scripture in Ephesians says that His power is at work within US! We have no reason to doubt ourselves when the creator and the redeemer of all things is working within us! We can live our lives in faith knowing that God is able to do more than we could ever imagine. This world and this community needs more people who can live out this revelation. It can start with us.

He can do immeasurably more in your family.

He can do immeasurably more in your marriage.

He can do immeasurably more in our cities, in our church, in this team.

He can do immeasurably more in our friends who are lost.

He can do immeasurably more in our nation and in this world.

I challenge all of us (myself included) to walk in faith this week and live like you believe it!
